1. About these terms

1.1 These terms apply to tuition, entrance-exam preparation and career advice provided by Distinction Tuition, run by [Your full name] ("I", "me"), to the parent, guardian or adult student who books ("you").

1.2 By booking a lesson or package you agree to these terms. Where the student is under 18, the parent or guardian who books is responsible for these terms.

1.3 Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.

2. Lessons

2.1 Lessons take place online or in person, as agreed. Each lesson is usually 60 minutes unless agreed otherwise.

2.2 I will provide tuition with reasonable care and skill, and tailor lessons to each student's needs and goals.

2.3 I cannot guarantee particular grades, exam results, school places, internships or jobs, which depend on many factors, including the student's own work.

2.4 Safeguarding and data protection are covered in the Safeguarding & Privacy page, which forms part of these terms.

3. Prices and payment

3.1 Prices are agreed with parents directly

3.2 Packages of lessons are paid in full before the first lesson. Pay-as-you-go lessons are paid before the lesson.

3.3 Payment is by bank transfer with details given on the invoice.

3.4 Prepaid packages must be used within 6 months of purchase. Unused lessons after that date are not refundable, except as set out in sections 4 and 5.

3.5 I will give at least one month's written notice of any price change. Lessons already paid for keep their original price.

4. Cancelling or moving a lesson

4.1 You can cancel or move a lesson free of charge with at least 24 hours' notice.

4.2 Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed, are charged in full (or deducted from a package). I may waive this in genuine emergencies.

4.3 If the student is late, the lesson still ends at the scheduled time.

4.4 If I need to cancel, I will give as much notice as possible and offer a rescheduled lesson or a full refund for that lesson, at your choice.

4.5 If an online lesson is cut short by a technical problem on my side, I will make up the lost time.

5. Your right to cancel within 14 days

5.1 If you book online, by phone or away from my premises, you have the right to cancel the agreement within 14 days of booking without giving a reason.

5.2 To cancel, tell me clearly in writing, for example by email to [email]. You can use the cancellation form at the end of these terms, but you don't have to.

5.3 If you cancel within the 14 days, I will refund all payments within 14 days of receiving your notice, using the same payment method.

5.4 If you ask for lessons to start within the 14-day period and then cancel, you pay for the lessons already given; I will refund the rest.

5.5 If all the lessons in your booking have been given within the 14 days at your request, and you have acknowledged that this ends your right to cancel, the right to cancel no longer applies.

6. Ending the arrangement

6.1 After the 14-day period, you can stop lessons at any time by telling me in writing. Unused prepaid lessons are refunded [in full / minus any lessons already given at the pay-as-you-go rate].

6.2 I may end the arrangement with reasonable notice, for example if fees are unpaid or behaviour during lessons is unsafe or abusive, and will refund any unused prepaid lessons.

7. Teaching materials

7.1 Notes, worksheets and resources I provide remain my intellectual property. They are for the student's personal use and may not be shared publicly or sold.

8. Complaints

8.1 If you are unhappy with any part of the service, please email me at [email]. I will reply within 7 days and aim to resolve the issue fairly.

9. Liability

9.1 Nothing in these terms limits my liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.

9.2 Otherwise, my total liability to you is limited to the fees you paid for the lessons concerned.

10. Special terms

Referral programme

  • An existing or past family, or a friend or contact, who refers a new family receives one free 1-hour lesson (or a £50 credit for non-clients) once the new family has paid for 4 lessons.

  • The new family also receives one free 1-hour lesson after their 4th paid lesson.

  • Rewards are limited to 3 per referrer each year, have no cash value, and cannot be transferred.

  • Rewards are never given for reviews or testimonials.

  • I may change or end the programme at any time; rewards already earned will still be honoured.

Finance careers advice

  • Career advice is provided by me and, where stated, by advisors on the Distinction Tuition finance careers panel. Your booking confirmation names your advisor.

  • Advice reflects advisors' personal experience and is not financial, legal or immigration advice.

  • No advisor can guarantee an internship, job offer, university place or interview, and advisors do not act on behalf of their employers.

Results and claims

  • Figures on the website, such as average grade improvement, describe past students' outcomes and are not a promise of future results.

11. Changes and law

11.1 I may update these terms; the latest version is always on the website. Changes do not affect bookings already paid for.

11.2 These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
